My name is Michael Dome. I am the online customer development manager
at Trans World Alloys (TWA) in Los Angeles, CA. We are a full service, full
line distributor of prime Titanium. We are the exclusive North American
distributor of Baoji Titanium. Baoji Industries is among the world's
largest titanium producers of sheet and plate.
TWA is a very aggressive company in the midst of tremendous growth and
expansion. This is partly due to the fact that we have this exclusive
distributorship mentioned above. Also due to the fact that we have secured,
over the last few years, many aerospace contracts. This is of interest in
more ways than one, let me explain. As a result of these aerospace
contracts, a whole new market was opened up to us in the form of aluminum.
As you probably know, when an aerospace contract is awarded, the company
goes on a major spending spree to gear up for the work. Undoubtedly, they
always over purchase all types of products. In many cases, we are the people
who end up with all of this "stuff" that is considered surplus. In most
cases the "stuff" has never even been used.
We get items from air tools, to diodes and everything in between. The most
important items come to us in the form of "prime condition" yet surplus
aluminum plate and sheet. Tons and tons of it. We also get tons of round bar
and flat stock as well. The catch is (and there always is one right?) that
the aerospace companies will not release the mill certs or test reports dueto a hypothetical liability issue. So due to this fact, what our customers
get is perfectly useable aluminum with no certs or test reports. We do
however, if needed provide lab tests which assures the customers that the
material is what it is. Also, most of the material still has the original
mill markings which also serves as a traceability aid. The beautiful part
about all of this is the fact that the material is sold to our customers at
tremendous savings, assuming that they don't have to have the certs or test
reports.
As I mentioned earlier we literally have several million pounds of this
material as well as several million pounds of our prime titanium inventory.
This is another benefit to our customers because they don't have to wait for
some sales person to locate the material and buy it out. So financial
savings and efficiency are the two keys that really separate us from the
pack. These two issues are what makes Trans World Alloys an important ally
to any successful business that uses these types of materials or their
relatives (stainless, high temp alloys, nickel, etc.)
